Generating a plan isn't planning a business

Tools like VentureKit deliver a complete business plan in minutes. The difference shows up the next day, when somebody has to defend it.

What the generator delivers

The document arrives finished. So does the doubt.

This is the category closest to Vibz, and for that reason the one that deserves the most careful argument. An AI plan generator genuinely solves the blank-page problem: you describe the business, answer a few questions and receive a complete document, with chapters, charts and projections, in a few minutes. Compared with filling in a template by hand, that is an enormous leap, and there is no point pretending otherwise.

The question that remains is a different one: what exactly you are holding. A business plan is not worth what is written in it, but how much of what is written survives when somebody pulls at a thread. Generating quickly solves the production of the document. On its own it does not solve the three things that decide whether it holds up: where the numbers came from, whether the parts agree with each other, and what happens to it afterwards.

The right questions

Four questions to ask any plan generator

These are not trick questions. They are the ones a partner, a bank or an investor will ask — and it is better that you ask them first.

  1. 1

Where did these numbers come from?

A generated plan carries projections with a definitive look. It is worth telling apart which came from assumptions you supplied and which the tool filled in to complete the document. The two look identical on the page, and only one of them can you defend in a meeting.

  2. 2

Does chapter 7 know what chapter 3 said?

A document can have all the right sections and still not be a model: it is enough for the initial investment in one chapter not to match what leaves the cash flow in another. Coherence between the parts is what separates a plan from a set of well-written texts about the same business — and it is not what speed of generation measures.

  3. 3

Does anything in here disagree with me?

A tool that merely executes what you ask is comfortable, and useless at precisely the moment that matters most. If your sales projection implies serving more customers than your opening hours allow, you need something to say so before the bank does. Agreement is not a service; it is the absence of review.

  4. 4

And after the PDF is ready?

The plan exists to guide the coming months, not to be handed over and filed. It is worth checking whether the tool follows the execution — targets, deadlines, review of what went off plan — or whether the relationship ends at the download.

The question that decides the meeting

The scenario the bank asks for and the document doesn't have

What the generated plan presents

One scenario

One sales projection, one margin, one payback. Numbers coherent with each other inside that single scenario.

What credit analysis asks

“And if you sell 30% less?”

The first question from any bank, partner or investor — and the one the document cannot answer without being rebuilt.

Val's assessment
A single-scenario plan is not a wrong plan: it is an incomplete one. Without the downside case there is no way to know whether working capital absorbs a drop in sales, or from what point the business stops paying for itself. It is the answer that decides the conversation, and it has to exist before the meeting.

An illustrative example. Some generators do offer scenario analysis — the point is to check that before the meeting, not during it.

Val — strategic AI

Val: the AI that disagrees with you when it should

Consultative analysis at every stage of the journey

Val knows your business. At each stage she analyses what you have built, points out inconsistencies, suggests improvements and delivers recommendations tailored to your industry and business model. She is not a text generator under another name: she is the difference between receiving a document and having someone check the document with you.

To be fair

AI plan generators solve the blank page better than any ready-made template. If your goal is a first document to react to, they work.

What they do not solve on their own is what comes next: knowing which numbers are yours, making sure the parts of the plan agree with each other, having someone question the weak assumption before the bank does, and turning the document into execution.

That is why Vibz does not present itself as a generator. It is five stages in which you decide, Val reviews, and the numbers hold each other up — plus a Cockpit that is still there when the plan becomes the next 90 days.
